Internet Addiction Effects Changes to Your Brain?

Internet Addiction Effects Changes to Your Brain? Internet addicts have brain changes similar to drug addicts and alcoholics, Chinese scientists found in a recent brain scan of 17 young web addicts.

Preliminary research by a team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Wuhan showed that Internet addicts had changes in the white matter of their brains and disruptions in the connections in nerve fibers linking brain areas involved in emotions, decision-making and self-control.

Researchers say their discovery, published in the Jan. 11 issue of PLoS One, could lead to new treatments for addictive behavior.

Meanwhile, of the 95 percent of gamers who did not fall into the “problem” category, there was little evidence that the hobby was related to any negative health or academic effects. For them, playing computer games is just a normal hobby.

But here’s another reason why men — girls get a pass on this one — should avoid placing hot laptops on their lap area: overheated laptops can, to use the words of a Reuters news report, cook your testicles. Well, if you want some fried testicles to serve for breakfast then go ahead and heat ’em with your computer. We’re pretty sure Dr. Hannibal Lecter will approve.
