Is Hyland’s Teething Tablets Safe? Nope! Throw Them Out ASAP – FDA

If your child is using Hyland’s Teething Tablets to relieve himself of teething symptoms, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends that you dispose of the tablets now.

According to the FDA, Hyland’s Teething Tablets were found to contain inconsistent amounts of belladonna, a substance which can be harmful in large doses.

Moreover, the agency has received reports of serious adverse events in children taking this product that are consistent with belladonna toxicity. Reports of children who consumed more tablets than recommended because the containers do not have child resistant caps also reached the FDA.

Four Loko Caffeinated Drink Health Effects: Good, Bad, Dangerous?

Four Loko, a caffeinated beverage popular among today’s college kids, may be legal and all but you should be extra careful when you are drinking it? Why, you ask?

Well, did you know that a 23.5-ounce can of Four Loko has an alcohol content of 12 percent and is equivalent to drinking five to six cans of beer?

No wonder some 50 students from Central Washington University got sick after drinking large amounts of the controversial drink at a party.

Aspirin Can Prevent Bowel Cancer?

A small dose of Aspirin a day can lower your chances of contracting bowel cancer, researchers from John Radcliffe Hospital and Oxford University say.

In an article published in the medical journal The Lancet, the researchers explain that aspirin blocks the effects of proteins that help trigger inflammation in the body. These proteins are associated with different types of cancers, including bowel cancer.

The study which covered 14,000 people looked at the drug’s long term effectiveness against bowel cancer with assessments spanning a twenty-year period.

Prostate Cancer Hormone Treatment Risks: Diabetes or Heart Problems

Warning and precaution: hormone treatments for prostate cancer can increase the risk of diabetes and heart problems. This is the additional message that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration would like manufacturers of hormone treatment drugs to include in their label.

The request was sent after the FDA reviewed six studies that showed a small increased risk of diabetes or heart problems in prostate cancer patients treated with drugs called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists. The drugs are used to suppress the production of testosterone, a hormone which fuels the growth of prostate cancer.
