FDA: HCG weight-loss products are illegal and may be unsafe. They are tremendously popular—a Google search pulls up over 27 million results. They claim to be all-natural, and promise consumers using it that they will lose one to two pounds a day, while feeling “healthy and energetic” all the while.

Its sellers claim that “very small amounts” of it can “disconnect the mobile fat of people’s body” and “burn and discharge the unwanted fat through the kidneys.”

Can brown fat be used to ‘cure’ obesity? Or is it the new weight-loss buzzword, no less a fad than multivitamins and protein diets that end up causing more harm than good?

The answer to both questions is ‘maybe’ — based on the most current information scientists have at hand, including the results of two recent studies on brown fat.

Brown fat, the brown-colored fatty tissue found mainly in patches along the neck and between the shoulders of newborn mammals and in adults of hibernating animals, exists to warm the body.

Weight loss fast and for good? Get a bypass—it beats the band, a study shows: More than one billion of the world’s seven billion people are overweight and at least 300 million are clinically obese.

Having reached epidemic proportions globally, obesity is a major contributor to the global burden of chronic disease and disability, the World Health Organization says.

In the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the Pacific Islands, Australasia and China, obesity rates have risen three-fold or more since 1980, fueled by soaring consumption of more high-calorie, nutrient-poor, sugary and fatty foods, combined with reduced physical activity.

Weight Loss Tips: Turn Off the Lights When You Sleep. To lose weight, you do not just trim down eat less or reduce your calorie intake. A new study suggests that you should also turn off the lights at night.

The study, which was published online in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, focused on how prolonged computer use and television viewing at night associated with lack of physical activity add risks for obesity.

What’s the Nip+Fab Tummy Fix? It’s a “miracle cream” which supposedly helps people reduce abdominal fat. It’s being touted as an alternative to liposuction and other kinds of “weight reduction” surgery. And, get this, all you gotta do to make the product work is rub the cream on your stomach.

Is the Nip+Fab Tummy Fix effective? Or is it an effin’ scam? We don’t know. But our rule of thumb when it comes to miracle treatments like this is the good old “When it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!” We are especially wary of products which teach us to be lazy or which promise easy solutions to challenging problems.
