Breast Implants Cancer Link: Do Boob Jobs Give You Cancer? Are breast implants cancerous? There’s a possibility that they are! Today, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a possible association between breast implants – whether saline or silicone – with a rare type of cancer called anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). According to the agency, women with breast implants “may have a very small but significant risk of ALCL in the scar capsule adjacent to the implant”.

Because of this, the agency is requesting health professionals to report any ALCL cases they encounter among women with breast implants.

Doctors use the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test but this cannot detect early cancer stages and is not very accurate because, to use the words of the Daily Telegraph, it “often indicates problems where none exists”.

Now, a recent research from Bristol University in the UK suggests that early warning signs of prostate cancer can be discovered through protein “growth factors” which are present in higher levels among men with prostate cancer.

Bad Health Effects of Candle Smoke Emissions: Cancer, Asthma, Allergies. Burning paraffin-based candles to light up your dinners may be romantic but a study suggests that doing it often and in an unventilated space can be dangerous to your health. The study, by researchers from the South Carolina State University, found that regular use of paraffin candles in unventilated rooms can cause allergies, asthma and even cancer.

During the study, the researchers burned paraffin-candles – the most common and cheapest kind of candle wax – in a small chamber for around five hours. The chemicals released by the candle were soaked up by charcoal which, when analyzed using a spectrogram, was found to contain toluene and benzene. Toluene can cause dizziness while benzene is a carcinogen which is also found in tobacco smoke.

Aspirin Can Prevent Bowel Cancer?

A small dose of Aspirin a day can lower your chances of contracting bowel cancer, researchers from John Radcliffe Hospital and Oxford University say.

In an article published in the medical journal The Lancet, the researchers explain that aspirin blocks the effects of proteins that help trigger inflammation in the body. These proteins are associated with different types of cancers, including bowel cancer.

The study which covered 14,000 people looked at the drug’s long term effectiveness against bowel cancer with assessments spanning a twenty-year period.

Prostate Cancer Hormone Treatment Risks: Diabetes or Heart Problems

Warning and precaution: hormone treatments for prostate cancer can increase the risk of diabetes and heart problems. This is the additional message that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration would like manufacturers of hormone treatment drugs to include in their label.

The request was sent after the FDA reviewed six studies that showed a small increased risk of diabetes or heart problems in prostate cancer patients treated with drugs called gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists. The drugs are used to suppress the production of testosterone, a hormone which fuels the growth of prostate cancer.
