Buffalo Stem Cell Research to Reduce Stem Cell Therapy Costs? A new stem cell that can continually grow and multiply without aging can help reduce the cost of stem cell therapy, scientists from the University of Buffalo say.

“MSC Universal” stem cells can be grown continuously in laboratories and can be used to treat heart diseases, diabetes, immune disorders and neurodegenerative conditions, scientists behind the discovery say.

MSC Universal is discovered by altering the genetics of mesenchymal stem cells from bone marrow. The scientists say messenchymal stem cells live in a short span of time but its lifespan is extended when its genetics is altered.

Leukemia Stem Cell Therapy in Seattle for Mandi Schwartz

A Yale Hockey player successfully underwent a stem-cell transplant on Wednesday to save her life from severe leukaemia. Twenty-two-year old Mandi Schwartz was infused with umbilical cord blood during the procedure at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance at the University of Washington Medical Center.

Schwartz is likely to stay in the hospital for a month so that her doctor will monitor her white blood cell count.

Stem Cell Heart Treatment: Amorcyte Inc. A small stem cell company based in Allendale, New Jersey has received what it calls the “the first U.S. patent in the industry to fully enable practical development of stem cell therapies for treating heart damage following a heart attack.”

Amorcyte Inc. received the patent after its small study, conducted last year, showed that stem cells taken from a patient’s own bone marrow can help repair damaged heart muscle and cause new blood vessels to grow.
