Colorado Stem Cell Therapy Clinic, Regenerative Sciences, Defies FDA

Despite a closure order from the Food and Drugs Administration, a stem cell clinic in Colorado – Regenerative Sciences – will continue to provide stem cell treatments to patients.

KWGN Denver quotes Regenerative Sciences Medical Director Dr. Christopher Centeno:

“We have no problem with the agency or how it conducts its business but we think they’re wrong on this one. Clearly for many of our patients this is going to limit their treatment options.”

At issue is whether stem cells taken from patients and grown in labs for greater number and re-injected back to the patient is a drug or not. The FDA considers these “cultured stem cells” as a drug that needs to be regulated while Regenerative Sciences considers these stem cells to be body parts rather than a drug.

Here’s a video report:

What do you think? Are cultured stem cells “drugs” or “body parts”?
